WCCC music classes offer children an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music through fun movement-based curriculum. Using songs, movement scores, rhythm games, instruments and improvisational structures, children gain skills to create and respond to music. While participating in imagination engaging activities, children develop an understanding of pitch, melody, rhythm, tempo, meter, audiation (inner hearing), and phrasing. WCCC music classes are a joyful way for children to grasp the primary concepts inherent in music while discovering their own unique musical expression. Jana Vitols is an early childhood music educator who has taught in the Seattle area since 1998. She has worked as an educator with infants, children and youth in a variety of settings including elementary and pre-schools, conservatories, housing shelters, family resource centers and at children’s birthday parties. Jana accompanies her classes using banjo, guitar, and violin. Her classes draw upon classical, folk, world and improvisational music and dance traditions. Jana received her B.A. in Dance/Movement Therapy from the Naropa University and is strongly influenced by her training in Dalcroze/Eurythmics, a pedagogical approach that aligns music with movement. The schedule for music classes will be posted on the Parent Information board. For more information Jana can be reached at www.musicforevery1.com

WCCC is proud to offer Japanese lessons to our Rainbow, Star and Rocket rooms. The lessons are taught by our very own Kyomi Coward, a teacher at WCCC for over five years. Kyomi is a native Japanese speaker and her 30 minute weekly lessons incorporate counting, song and writing. Kyomi has been teaching Japanese at WCCC and other schools in the Seattle area for the past several years. Kyomi is amazed at how much the children enjoy and absorb the language and culture.
