Optional Lessons

We offer optional music and movement lessons in all classrooms except infants (Cloud).

Music

WCCC music classes offer children the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music through a fun movement-based curriculum. Using songs, movement scores, rhythm games, instruments and improvisational structures, children gain skills to create and respond to music. WCCC music classes are a joyful way for children to grasp the primary concepts inherent in music while discovering their own unique musical expression.

Jana Vitols is an early childhood music educator who has taught in the Seattle area since 1998. She has worked as an educator with infants, children and youth in a variety of settings including elementary and pre-schools, conservatories, housing shelters, family resource centers and at children’s birthday parties. Jana accompanies her classes using banjo, guitar, and violin. Her classes draw upon classical, folk, world and improvisational music and dance traditions. Jana received her B.A. in Dance/Movement Therapy from the Naropa University and is strongly influenced by her training in Dalcroze/Eurythmics, a pedagogical approach that aligns music with movement.

The schedule for music classes will be posted on the Parent Information board.

Movement
Diana Viney, our movement teacher, is a dance educator, working in the Early Childhood field since 1992. She studied child development and dance at the University of Washington and has received teacher training at the Creative Dance Center from Anne Green Gilbert, one of the nation's leading experts on Creative Dance for children.

Her creative movement classes provide children with structured time to use the medium of movement while exploring and strengthening physical, social, and emotional skills. Classes incorporate a combination of repetitive elements as well as new, thematic or spontaneous activities. Weekly classes are 45 minutes in length and are incorporated into the child’s regular classroom schedule.
